Scary Movies!

The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1 NIV)

Last night I watched an old Alfred Hitchcock movie. This one wasn't particularly scary, but it reminded me of several of his movies that were real scary. I don't mind a real good scary movie. I'm not interested in blood and guts, HORROR movies. I just want to watch a movie that is naturally scary.

I'm curious why our society, especially young people, are so interested in scary movies. Life is scary enough. It's not an intense, jumpy, scary. Life is full of so much unknown and things out of our control. Fear leads to so much stress, illness, and loss of sleep. As I grow older, I'm not as fearful as I used to be. I don't worry as much, I'm not nearly as stressed, and the number of nights I can't sleep due to fear  is nearly zero. Many nights in the past I would wake and be worried about something and not be able to get back to sleep. I would be afraid I wouldn't wake up in time, forget to do an important task, or not be prepared for an event. The more I turn things over to God, the more I relax and take what comes. I can do that because I have witnessed first hand what God has done in my life. It is God. It's not me, I am only changed through his grace, mercy, and love. Praise God I don't have anything to fear. I fear no one, I have a stronghold through Jesus Christ. I do not fear!
