Allergic to God?

2 Timothy 3 (The Message)

1-5Don't be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God.

Such an interesting choice of words. My older brother has severe allergies. I know of some people who literally can't function during certain times of the year because of allergies. By definition an allergy is an exaggerated immune response or reaction to substances that are generally not harmful. When someone has an allergy, the immune system does not function properly and reacts to things that healthy people don't. Something is truly wrong with a person if they are allergic to God. It's not a damaged immune system that causes this allergy, but a damaged Heart. People who are self absorbed have a damaged heart, money hungry people have a damaged heart, self promoting, stuck up, profane people have a damaged heart.  I think you get the point. God is loving and kind.  Not only does he not want to harm us, he wants nothing but the best for us. But because of the damage to the heart, many people are allergic to God. People who are allergic to God avoid him at all costs. Instead of facing the truth of Gods love, they isolate themselves from him. They will suffer unbearable pain. They will die a painful sure death.
The best cure is to repair the damaged heart. Come to Jesus, he is the great physician, he will cure the heart.  He is the prescription that will work.  When he heals, all the symptoms will disappear.

Dear Lord, Heal our damaged hearts.  We are miserable without you.  We suffer and suffer without your prescription for health. We pray for so many people who suffer needlessly without you.  Thank you for your love. Amen!
