Who's to blame!

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, (Isaiah 61:1 NIV)

My daughter and I have been having a debate about the demise of our favorite college team, the Indiana Hoosiers. She is not willing to blame the coaches. She is like her mother, she has a heart of gold. I agree, a Coach is not completely to blame, after all, the players make or miss all the shots, turn the ball over, or foul. But, the coach is responsible for building a culture of winning. After a sufficient amount of time if that culture is not there, he is responsible. He must shoulder the blame.

As Christians we are given the task of spreading the Gospel. It's not easy. We fight the fight with all Gods power behind us. If we do not come out victorious, we must shoulder the blame. We are sinful and can not do it without the love and directing power of Christ. If we are not successful, we can place blame in a lot of places. In the end it's about you and me. We were given the task to proclaim the good news, we are to comfort the lost, proclaim freedom for those trapped in sin, and release the lost from their prisons. We can't blame anyone. God has given us the Holy Spirit, he has given us the opportunities, if we don't take those chances, the lost will be our fault. The ultimate price for our failure is death for those who don't come to know Christ. We can not fail at this mission. We must increase our efforts in a world that has lost faith. The risk of not doing so is too high.

Who's to blame?

Psalm 21 (New International Version, ©2011)
 1 The king rejoices in your strength, LORD.
   How great is his joy in the victories you give!

 2 You have granted him his heart’s desire
   and have not withheld the request of his lips.[b]
3 You came to greet him with rich blessings
   and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
   length of days, for ever and ever.
5 Through the victories you gave, his glory is great;
   you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.

I hate it when someone wrongfully takes credit for something. I get people that come up to me and congratulate me when our basketball team wins. I can assure you I do not deserve the credit. They made the shots. They got the rebounds or steals or made the free throws. I can't take credit when they win or lose. There is an old athletic director saying, "when the team wins, it's because of the players. When a team loses it's because of coaching."
David had it right in this Psalm! None of his victories were because of him. God is the reason for his victories. We should be the same way. God is in control of our lives, we asked him to. So why do we take the credit when things are great and blame God when there not? God deserves all the glorY, honor and praise. We don't!

Dear Lord, forgive us our arrogance. Forgive us for not praising you for every victory. Thank you for loving us anyway! Amen!
