Philippians 1 (The Message)
27-30 Stand united, singular in vision, contending for people's trust in the Message, the good news, not flinching or dodging in the slightest before the opposition. Your courage and unity will show them what they're up against: defeat for them, victory for you—and both because of God.
Tonight was our first Home football game. I am exhausted. I didn't stop for a second from 7am this morning until now. But , even though I am tired, it was fun getting the football season under way. I love all sports, but I like football because of it's complexity. It is unique in how the 11 people on the field must be completely united in their movement. Soccer has some of this, but not having much soccer knowledge, I don't see the same unity of purpose as in football. In order for a single offensive play or a single defensive stop to occur, everyone has to do their individual job in complete sync with the player next to him. if one player "flinches" it causes a problem that will over extend the other players. The team that wins is the team that can work with single purpose and single unity. It is truly an intimidation factor when all eleven players are working together. It will spell defeat for the opponent.
As christians we also need to focus on the one purpose and the one goal. It will not work if we have one church fighting another, or if we have one christian fighting another. We must be united to let the opposition know that we will win. We will win because Christ is on our side. When christians unite to make a political stand, to challenge sin, or to help each other, it can be very impressive. Now more than ever we (christians) are fighting a very strong opponent. If the challenger can divide us, he will win. If we can stand together, WE ALL WIN for eternity. The best news is that we have the best coach in the world, God is on our side, no one can defeat us!
Dear Lord, thank you for teaming us up with fellow believers. We are united in you. We are soldiers, teammates, and cheerleaders for each other. We will work together to further your kingdom on Earth. Thank you for being with us and the confidence that we are victorious through you!
