“Moses said this about the tribes of Joseph: “May their land be blessed by the Lord with the precious gift of dew from the heavens and water from beneath the earth; with the rich fruit that grows in the sun, and the rich harvest produced each month; with the finest crops of the ancient mountains, and the abundance from the everlasting hills; with the best gifts of the earth and its bounty, and the favor of the one who appeared in the burning bush. May these blessings rest on Joseph’s head, crowning the brow of the prince among his brothers.”
Deuteronomy 33:13-16 NLT

I want to find the favor of the Lord. I want nothing more for the Lord to be proud of me and the life I lead. I’m trying. I want to serve, speak with words from the Lord. I want to be a husband that honors his wife, a Dad who loves his kids, a teacher with a caring heart, and a community leader who serves his neighbor. Some days I’m more successful than others. I’m not trying to earn my way to heaven. I’m trying to find favor with my Father in Heaven. I want that for myself, my wife, and my family. This constant thought helps me stay focused on what God wants me to do as I walk through my day. I know I can never get to a point where I have earned my salvation. That’s where grace comes in. But, my assured place in eternity drives me to want the same thing for you. My heart is directed to share my faith, not because I am special, but because I have one goal, for you to join me in eternity, sitting at the feet of Jesus.
So I pray for favor from the Lord for myself, my wife, my kids, my grandkids, and you. May the Lord look down on us and bless our walk with him today and forever. May the Lotd bless you as you serve your employer, may he bless you neighborhood, May he bless your relationships. May the Lord bless you with the best of this life. Amen!

A different kind of Beggar
“For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.”
2 Corinthians 8:3-5 NLT
http://bible.com/116/2co.8.3-5.nlt
I have to admit... I’m not a very good giver. I have had points in my life I have tithed, not very often. Don’t misunderstand. I have given to numerous charities, churches, school organizations, and community groups. Yet, I can’t say I have given sacrificially. I have never begged God for the opportunity to give. How amazing is the group of early followers mentioned above. They certainly are a new kind of beggar. I have given less than I could afford. I wonder what blessings I missed. I don’t think anyone can say I have given more than they hoped for.
Steph and I have been re-examining our giving. At the beginning of the year we started tutoring and have been giving nearly all of it to support our motorcycle ministry. We are in the process of selling our home. We are tithing on all our proceeds. We are looking at giving more and living on way less. I’m not doing it to “earn” more blessings. I know that can’t be done because I deserve nothing. But I do not God will bless that money for his kingdom and it’s reach will be multiplied beyond anything I could imagine.
Dear Lord, I know I need to give Everything I have for your kingdom. I need to sacrifice all for you. Please forgive me for my selfish giving. I need your spirit to fill both Stephanie and I to see ALL we have is for you and for your glory. May we direct it all to you every day of our lives! Amen!

Yep! We're Crazy!
2 Corinthians 5:13-14 -- 13If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. 14Either way, Christ’s love controls us.
5:14a Or urges us on.Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life.
5:14a Or urges us on.Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life.
Well, the truck is purchased. The fifth wheel is home and we are even closer to the sale of our house. God is amazing and even though I have no idea what lies ahead I am excited and ready to continue this adventure we call life.
Stephanie and I have always been unconventional and now even more than ever. Our plans on simplifying our lives and being more open to the call of ministry is inching closer every day. Turning away from the conventional home, and permanent residence for FULL TIME RV LIVING. People in this country are looking to acquire more stuff and we are getting rid of it all. A lot of people just don't understand. They think we are crazy. I think I agree with them. We are! We are crazy enough to hear the call of the Lord and answer that call with everything we own. YES, If it seems we are crazy, it is all to bring GLORY TO THE LORD.
Christ died for us. You know what? That seems crazy to many people. That wonderful sacrifice is the LOVE that controls my life right now. That wonderful love drives me to serve for him. PRAISE GOD he loved me so much that he wants to spend eternity with me and I can't wait to spend it with him!

I get knocked down!
“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.”
2 Corinthians 4:8-10 NLT
http://bible.com/116/2co.4.8-10.nlt
I have mentioned the ups and downs of our life in the past few weeks. I read this scripture this morning and I know it was sent from God. I have been a little stressed lately. The house has been on the market, off the market, on the market, off the market and now back on the market. We bought a new fifth wheel for our home, bought a new truck, sold our camper, and tried to continue in ministry. It’s been a whirlwind! If I didn’t have 58 years experience in God’s perfect plan, I would be in shear panic mode. Strangely enough, I’m not! It’s only through the power of Jesus living inside me.
This scripture describes me perfectly. I feel pressed in on all sides, perplexed, hunted down, and over all stressed to the max. But, it’s amazing how much peace you can feel during times of trouble when the Lord is with you. It’s incredible how blessed I am and wouldn’t ever be able to complain about my life. The Lord is good and I know if I just trust him I will not be crushed, or live in dispair, or feel abandoned. As the song says, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.... On Christ the solid rock I stand!”
Praise God for his perfect love and the adventurous path he has laid before me.

I’m not offended,
“The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”
Matthew 11:5-6 KJV
http://bible.com/1/mat.11.5-6.kjv
John the Baptist died a cruel death. Just before he was beheaded, Jesus sent him this message. If we we didn’t know better we might think Jesus was gloating over the success of his ministry and the failure of Johns. But, he told John not to be offended. I think this short statement was a message about not giving up hope in a time when it appears God is not answering your prayers.
John was suffering in prison and he died there. But, he ended up in eternity! He was freed!
Are you offended by God? Are you upset when prayers go unanswered? God is asking us not to take it personal when it looks like he is not taking action.
So, our house has been sold and unsold TWICE. Stephanie and I feel like we’re on a giant roller coaster. We have accepted two offers only to have people withdraw them for the smallest reasons. My emotions go from disappointment to anger to praising God. Yes, to praising God. I know he has a plan and that plan is perfect. I’m not sure why, he could make this easy. He has the power to sell this house right now! But for some reason, my wise Heavenly Father has chosen a time of waiting. So we wait. I’m not offended. Our prayers will be answered in his time!
Praise God for his love and direction!

The List
“So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees. Then he said to his servant, “Go and look out toward the sea.” The servant went and looked, then returned to Elijah and said, “I didn’t see anything.” Seven times Elijah told him to go and look. Finally the seventh time, his servant told him, “I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.” Then Elijah shouted, “Hurry to Ahab and tell him, ‘Climb into your chariot and go back home. If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you!’””
1 Kings 18:42-44 NLT
http://bible.com/116/1ki.18.42-44.nlt
Elijah never gave up. Neither should we.
I have a pretty big prayer list. It rarely gets smaller. But, I’m praying for rain! I need the Lords help for me, my family, and my friends. I have learned I can not go through life alone. I have learned that if my life is left up to my own actions, I will not survive.
I haven’t always had a physical prayer list. I can’t tell you how important it is. It is so easy to give up on a prayer, forget about it, and move on just because God didn’t answer it in your time. Having a prayer list, journal, helps me be persistent , and never give up. Sometimes God wants to know how serious we are about our requests. If they fade with our newest crisis, you may not be all that committed to your supplications.
Dear Lord, forgive me of my lack of focus. Forgive me for my lack of faith. I will not give up because you have never given up on me. I can not live this life the way you want me to live without your powerful hand. Please Lord hear my cries! Amen!

Am I driving God crazy?
“The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’””
Luke 18:4-5 NLT
http://bible.com/116/luk.18.4-5.nlt
Am I driving God crazy!? Am I wearing him out with my childlike requests?
You know the answer is “absolutely not!”
My father in heaven loves it when I come to him, regardless the reason. He loves it when I am pleading to him, crying out to him, for help in times of trouble. He loves my shallow requests and my deepest yearnings. He will never turn away. So, I take everything to him. I have a prayer list that never gets smaller. God knows our heart. His wisdom is far beyond anything we can fathom. He just loves to hear our voices raised to him. I really can’t drive God crazy! His patience is perfect. His love, mercy, and grace are forever.
Gid is ok with all my rants, my emotional ups and downs, my anger, my depression, and all the drama that fills my day. His only desire is to be close to us because he loves us. If we drive him crazy at all it’s with his insane love for us. If you can’t praise and worship THAT kind of God, you’re life is hopeless.
Praise God!

Will God?
“GOD answered Moses, “So, do you think I can’t take care of you? You’ll see soon enough whether what I say happens for you or not.””
Numbers 11:23 MSG
http://bible.com/97/num.11.23.msg
As a Christian I have things I just don’t understand. I’m no different than anyone else when it comes to understanding the ways of our Lord. But, I can tell you without a single doubt in my mind, there is no limit to the Power of the Lord. My grandest question throughout my life is not CAN God, but will God.
A perfect example happened this past weekend. We have been on a rollercoaster lately. Our house was sold. Then Friday as we were ending worship at our CMA event we got a call. Our buyer was backing out. It was a shock. Then our Realtor told us the other family that submitted an offer was still interested and wanted to see the house on Sunday. Our world was shocked and then we had new hope. But, we were nervous. Neither of us doubted his power. Through this past year our questions have all centered around knowing God’s perfect will for our lives. I think that question will always be there. Knowing his will is not easy. Only by prayer and becoming intimate with our Lord can we ever hope to see his plan.
We got and accepted another offer yesterday. God is good! His mercy and grace are forever. There is no limit to what he can do!

Setback!
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 12:1-2 NLT
http://bible.com/116/rom.12.1-2.nlt
Praise God!
We got some news yesterday that was a little bit of a shock to us. It’s a set back, but all I can say is PRAISE GOD!
It is easy to praise God when life goes your way. But today it’s not going my way. In my selfishness I often need to be reminded it’s not my timing, it’s the Lords! How could I ever doubt the perfect timing of the Lord? If there is one thing I have learned in my 58 years of life it’s that God’s plan is perfect.
So, trust him! Dedicate every particle of your being to him! Be patient! Everything is for his glory, not our own! We are being changed, transformed, into a new person. This happens through fire and rain. It comes through triumph and defeat. I can see the changes in me and I welcome them. The Lord is faithful and we just to need to lean on him.
His will is perfect, his plan is pleasing. It all works for his glory!

All that I am
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
Romans 5:8 NLT
http://bible.com/116/rom.5.8.nlt
Why would God send his son? You know how you are. I know how I am. We are sinners. We are stubborn, self centered sinners that deny God his laws, and his wonderful plans for us. It just doesn’t make sense he would give up Jesus to make it right for us.
I am constantly amazed at the love of God. When I see how he has multiplied my blessings for no good reason; when I see the life I have lived; when I see his plans for my future, I have to fall to my knees and praise him. There is no explanation.
That is grace. When I think of the wonders his hands have made, I am motivated even more to serve. Lord, use me. Take all that I am, all that I have and use it for one thing, your glory.

Crazy Giving
“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. ””
Luke 6:38 NLT
http://bible.com/116/luk.6.38.nlt
As a teacher, I am bombarded with fundraisers for sports teams, clubs, and all sorts of charities. If you don’t have the right attitude it can be a little frustrating. But, I really support the things our kids are doing. I am more than willing to do what I can. I enjoy giving. Since January Stephanie and I have been tutoring to help raise money for our Christian Motorcyclists Association annual fundraiser. It’s amazing how it makes you feel giving big. We have sold our house and we are dedicating a portion of those profits to our church and our ministry. I don’t give to get more. I give because I am compelled to serve the Lord with all my resources, everything!
When I was reading these verses this morning, it convicted me that I need to do more. I need to be a crazy giver, I need to give everything for his kingdom. I need to devote every day, every hour, every minute, every dollar, every thing I own, for his kingdom. God has blessed me beyond anything I deserve and infinitely more than I could ever dream. What I have, who I am is only through the power of his grace and mercy. How can I not give all to his kingdom. How can I keep anything for myself?
We all need to sacrifice for the kingdom. We need to give in a way that we say “This is Crazy!” We need to question the sanity of our giving. We need to give from deep, not just from a shallow obligation. The Lord knows everything we have. He sees what our true commitment is. When we give in CRAZY ways , he honors that and gives back three fold!
Praise a God for this life we live!

It just doesn’t add up!
“But Moses responded to the Lord, “There are 600,000 foot soldiers here with me, and yet you say, ‘I will give them meat for a whole month!’ Even if we butchered all our flocks and herds, would that satisfy them? Even if we caught all the fish in the sea, would that be enough?””
Numbers 11:21-22 NLT
http://bible.com/116/num.11.21-22.
Moses is a smart guy. When the Lord told him he would provide a month of meat for the Israelites, he just couldn’t understand how. He would have never predicted God would decide to rain “quail” upon this tiny nation. But, he did. In the mind of this young leader it just didn’t add up. I love Moses. He is a logical, smart guy that even in his own doubt, trusts the Lord.
As I have mentioned on here recently, Stephanie and I have sold our house, purchased a fifth wheel and will become full time Rvers in a little over a month. Our daughters, some of our friends, and probably most people are saying this just doesn’t add up. They are scratching their heads and wondering how and why, just like Moses. Most people strive for that perfect home all their lives. We have it and are giving it up. We are greatly reducing our stuff. We are weeding through clothes, household goods, books, and countless items we have saved over the years to simplify our lives. It’s refreshing and so “un-American”.
We are not sure of all the details, but God is directing us in ways that are very unconventional. We feel led to simplify our lives, remove debt, and be free to follow God’s call in ministry. It doesn’t add up, but we trust the Lord with all our heart, even when it doesn’t add up. Stephanie and I are as close to each other and the Lord as we have ever been. Our path is from him. It is clear and we are so excited to see his plan come together.

It doesn’t add up, but we trust the Lord with all our heart, even when it doesn’t add up. Stephanie and I are as close to each other and the Lord as we have ever been. Our path is from him. It is clear and we are so excited to see his plan come together.

Tiny House LIving: Dreams come true!
“When the Lord brought back his exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.” Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy!”
Psalms 126:1-3 NLT

It's not just true for Disney Princess's it's also true for you and me. DREAMS DO COME TRUE! Stephanie and I are about to venture into "Tiny House Living". I love the show and the concept of simplifying your lives. When we removed the STUFF that dominates our time, energy, and resources, we are open to the call of God and more able to focus on him. In a little over a month we will be moving from our 1800 sq. ft. home to a 437 sq. ft. RV and we are PUMPED. The house is sold, we have purchased our "TINY HOUSE" 5th wheel and now we are working towards finishing our downsizing to realize our dreams.
Nearly two years ago we started dreaming of this plan. We have prayed and prayed and prayed some more to make sure this was the path God laid before us. As barriers began to be removed, we realized OUR dream was God's dream. In a nutshell, Stephanie and I are simplifying our lives so God can use us without the excuses we usually revert to. No more will we be able to claim we can't afford to go into ministry and our financial obligations will no longer tie us down. We are not quite there yet, but this last week, GOD has blessed us with some big steps to reach our dreams.
I praise the Lord for all his blessings. He is amazing and we are testing the edges by dreaming big. But, the bigger your dreams the easier, it is to see the hand of God intervening. His presence is so evident when the things that are WAY out of your control just happen. We want to honor the Lord with everything we have. Now everything we have will be a lot less, but it will be ALL FOR HIS GLORY!

“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.”
Romans 5:6-7 NLT

Praise God for answered prayer. Our house is sold and God’s wonderful new plan for our lives is in motion again. For those that don’t know, Stephanie and I have been planning, for nearly two years, to simplify our lives. We realized we did not need all the “stuff” we had and as we journeyed toward retirement we needed to eliminate long term financial commitment. Our goal is to be completely debt free within no more than two years. This week moves us a step closer to that goal. Our house is “pending” sale. We have accepted an offer and are working toward closing in 45 days.
Through this entire process we have been in intense prayer for God to guide us. Oh boy! Has God done that. Stephanie and I are drawing closer to each other and both of us are growing spiritually in the Lord. One thing we started this week is “Fasting”. We’re not FOOD fasting because I’m a diabetic and we both have greatly reduced our food. But, we are fasting from social media and tv in the mornings. We are devoting that time to study and prayer. That time culminates with us praying together. I have a confession. We’ve never really prayed together except with other people, at dinner, etc. it’s been great. I get to know Stephanie’s heart better and it has been awesome. I am so blessed to have a wife who loves to Lord just like I do. We are praying over many issues going on right now in our family, our ministries, and in our world. It seems our prayer list never gets shorter, it only grows!
We will continue our fasting for the next 45 days and will be praying for continued holy guidance and intervention in many areas of our personal lives. Praise God that even though we are all sinnners, he died for our sins and lives for us and with us right now! Praise God he answers our prayers. He listens to his children. We are your humble servants Lord! Use US for your glory!

Intensity
“And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”
Luke 11:2-4 KJV
http://bible.com/1/luk.11.2-4.kjv
How intense are your prayers? My prayer list is growing all the time. I never know when to remove someone from my list. As that list grows, I find myself getting into a “rut” prayers no the same thing. It’s kind of like the Lord’s Prayer. Many of us have said this prayer countless times and, frankly, we can just say it out of memory and duty. But, we need to be intense about our prayers. Our prayers need to touch the heart of God. Prayers need to come from deep inside us.
Try saying this prayer with intensity, passion, exploring every word as you share them with the Lord. Praise a God for his patience, wisdom, and knowledge. He knows our hearts, our sincerity, and the fervency of our prayers. He hears our cry’s. Hear hears from deep within. You need to search yourself the way God does and speak to him from a genuine, deep love!

What do you want?
“As Jesus and the disciples left the town of Jericho, a large crowd followed behind. Two blind men were sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was coming that way, they began shouting, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” “Be quiet!” the crowd yelled at them. But they only shouted louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” When Jesus heard them, he stopped and called, “What do you want me to do for you?””
Matthew 20:29-32 NLT
http://bible.com/116/mat.20.29-32.nlt
Ive been reading a book by Mark Batterson call “The Circle Maker”. Actually, I’m rereading it. Stephanie and I are reading it together and I am studying it a little deeper. Mark mskes a great point about this story. These two blind men call out to Jesus and he wants to know what they want for him. Duh! (I’m not sure you’re aloud to say duh to Jesus) Mark comments that Jesus knew what they wanted, he just wanted to make sure THEY knew what they wanted.
So the question: What do you want from Jesus? If you’re like me, you are not sure you can verbalize it. Jesus knows our desires. He doesn’t need us to tell him. Yet, he wants us to verbalize it. He wants us to search our own hearts and be clear on what we want, what our goals are, and what path we desire. Then we need to verbalize it through prayer. It’s more for us than Jesus.
Do you really know what you want? What are your plans? What are the real desires of your heart? God will answer . We don’t get what we want because we don’t ask. Find out WHAT you want and ask! Then sit back and watch the miracles poor out in your life!

WRONG THING TO DO!
Acts 14:15-16
“Friends,14:15 Greek Men. why are you doing this? We are merely human beings—just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.
While it feels great to get that kind of affirmation. Just like Paul and Barnabus, it is so IMPORTANT to make sure people know it's not about me. I AM ONLY WHO I AM THROUGH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. I need to make sure the praise and honor for everything in my life is directed straight at the Lord. Without the Lord working through me, I am nothing AND I can confess I will "screw it up" at some point. It never fails that my sinful nature comes through at some point. But, the LORD overcomes that and defeats the sin in me.

I hope this doesn't sound arrogant, but the students I work with love me. I really enjoy working with students and they respond. This weekend at the Bike Blessing, I had so many bikers come up and tell me how much they appreciate what we do at CMA. Things are going GREAT in my life. I have people come up and tell me how much they envy my life. IT would be so easy to pat myself on the back and bask in the praise!

My life is about ONE thing.............JESUS. My life is about spreading the gospel message to the world. It is not by MY power. The only power I have is through Jesus. He has directed me to be a light in the world and that can only be done with the grace, mercy, and love of JESUS.
Give Credit to the Lord. PRAISE GOD THAT HE CARES SO MUCH FOR ME!

The Ride season begins!
““Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.”
Acts 13:38 NIV
http://bible.com/111/act.13.38.niv
I had a great time this weekend with my biker friends. Yep, we rode our motorcycles on chilly day that started out at 23 degrees and ended at a balmy 39! The ride season kicks off every year with our pilgrimage to little Arcola Indiana and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. 5 out of 7 years it’s cold but no one cares. Well, I guess that’s not completely true. If it’s warm, there will be 5,000 people there. Today it was probably less than a thousand. I love Father Tad and his accent. I love that he calls our motorcycles , “Motor Bikes.” I love this event and love the promise there is good riding weather just around the corner.
So, why get all bundled up to ride to a Bike Blessing?
God has called Stephanie and I to minister, to serve bikers. We take it seriously and we do every thing we can to build relationships, pray, and serve those who don’t know Jesus. It’s not an “in your face” ministry. We serve like Jesus. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to love everyone, the lost and our brothers are both included in that command. When an opportunity arises, we will be there. We get to know these awesome people and just love on them. We are drawn to them. We want to know their troubles, their trials, and their joys. I consider many of them my friends and pray for them daily.
God calls us to serve the lost and our brothers. He calls us to show the power of the Gospel message and live a life dedicated to him. That is only done by GOing out to serve. Praise God for the wonderful opportunity to serve!

Change is good!
“The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.””
Acts 10:15 NIV
http://bible.com/111/act.10.15.niv
Poor Peter! Things were changing. Things that were unclean for Jews all the sudden became clean. God really shook things up after the birth, life, death, and resurrrection of Jesus. After Jesus, the creator of the universe was no longer exclusively for the Jews and things changed. It was hard for people to accept.
I love the verse that says Jesus is the same today, yesterday, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) But this doesn’t mean things won’t change in our faith. My life is changing and I really love that it is. Life is exciting in the Lord. The adventure that we call life is not meant to be dull and routine. The Lord changes us and our hearts and as that happens, our lives change. Our priorities change, our jobs change, our families change, and it is great. Change keeps us fresh and keeps us drawing closer to God. The uncertainty of change, keeps us depending on the Lord for guidance and keeps us praying.
Thank you Lord. You are amazing. Thank you for the adventure called life.

Serving vs. Converting
“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”
Acts 13:2-3 NIV
http://bible.com/111/act.13.2-3.niv
Paul started his ministry sharing the gospel with the Jews he had spent his life persecuting. How difficult was that?only through the power of the Holy Spirit would his words convert them to Jesus. But, then he ventured into more difficult territory. He started converting the gentiles. This reminds me so much of what we do at CMA. Bikers are not all hostile to Christianity, but MANY have had such bad experiences with the church and its members. While there are a few that are outright hostile most non Christians we minister to just don’t understand what they are missing. They do not understand or see the value of faith in Jesus. They don’t know about or believe in the consequences of a life without Christ.
It is so important to minister with a heart for the lost. I’m not talking about an adversarial relationship. I’m not talking about us versus them and I’m not approaching ministry in a way that makes us out to be better than anyone. We are ALL sinners. I am no different. I’m talking about building friendships out of a genuine caring heart. I’m talking about genuinely serving those that don’t know Jesus, without ANY STRINGS ATTACHED. We don’t serve to convert, we serve to love. There is a huge difference in serving to convert or serving to show them the love of Jesus. We absolutely want them to come to know the love of Jesus. But, we can’t expect to get them to change unless we start by unconditionally loving them. We speak the truth but life without any reservations. That’s true ministry!

I’m NOT Surprised!
“Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.””
Acts 12:11 NIV
http://bible.com/111/act.12.11.niv
I really love this story about Peter and the power of God. Even Peter lets down his guard and admits he had doubts about being rescued. He had so many prayer warriors, How could he be surprised? How could the prayer warriors held up in a private room be surprised? When Peter knocks on the door and they won’t even let him in, it is a crazy moment. Prayers were answered in a powerful way and yet those praying had little faith the answer would come.
We have such a great God. Our God is almighty and powerful beyond anything we could ever imagine. Yet, we/I put him in such a small box. Instead of mighty and powerful, we paint him as weak and absent from this world. My experience is that the Lord is active and deeply involved in every aspect of my life. I challenge you to look into your life and see where the Lord is working. For Stephanie and I it is so obvious how he is working. He is laying out a path before us very different than we would have designed even a year ago. Yet, it’s exciting and wonderful. It’s fun to watch the pieces fall into place and know that it is the hand of the Creator of the Universe. As I grow in my faith, I am surprised less and less when my prayers are answered. Prayer, communicating with the Lord, is so important. It must be a centerpiece of our lives. We should not be surprised when the Lord hears us and answers those prayers. Praise God for his love, his desire to be near me and Praise God for answered prayer.

I’m not suffering from a mental disorder
“One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!” Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God. Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.”
Acts 10:3-5 NIV
http://bible.com/111/act.10.3-5.niv
Have you ever had a vision from God? To the faithless, this might seem ridiculous. Or some famous talk show personality might say you’re crazy or suffer from a mental health disorder. I don’t take it lightly.
About ten months ago, in the midst of some personal trials, God spoke to me. Since that time a new vision of my future has begun to come into focus. I can SEE where God is leading me and Stephanie. First of all we are venturing down a clear path to retirement. I’m not there yet mentally, but I’m getting closer. Second, God is calling Stephanie and I into some type of mission field. We don’t know exactly what that looks like, but the wheels have clearly been placed in motion. We are excited and anxious about our future. We want to make sure of God’s direction. We are in constant prayer. Our prayers are for discernment and wisdom in making life decisions. God is faithful. Even through some anxiety and anticipation, we are at peace knowing God is in control.
We all need to look to God for direction in our daily lives. We need to ask for clear vision as we plan for our future. We need to remain in constant prayer, in order to listen for the voice of God. You are not crazy listening to the voice of the creator of the universe. You do not suffer from a mental disorder.
Dear Lord, remind me my future plans are not MY plans, they are yours. Guide my steps, my words, my thoughts, and my decisions so that I will follow the path you have laid before me. Give me clear vision to see your will for my life. Speak to me Lord. I long to hear your voice and your presence in my life. I am so honored that you care about me, a sinner saved by your wonderful grace!

I am not afraid!
“Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,”
Acts 9:17-18 NIV
http://bible.com/111/act.9.17-18.niv
What are you afraid of?
Being a “macho man” I’m going to say I’m not afraid of anything!
I’m not afraid of spiders, snakes, heights, confined spaces, fighting, and I’m not afraid to proclaim the name of Jesus,.............or am I?
The easiest thing we can say is “We are not afraid!” But, how does this lack of fear show up in our lives. If I say I’m not afraid, but act like I am, which is correct? When was the last time you shared the gospel with a stranger? When was the last time you publicly proclaimed the power of the Lord? How safe is your ministry?
I can’t imagine being Ananias! He was challenged by the Lord to seek out Saul! He questioned God, but pursued the greatest threat to Christianity that ever walked the earth. I wish I could claim that kind of bold, fearless, faith.
As I get older, my fear is fading. I have never felt more bold for the Lord. I still have a long way to go. My powerful, loving, creator of all things, Lord, is using me and I feel his presence deep inside me. I have an ever increasing desire to serve him. This world is not a friendly place. As a Christ follower the chance of persecution is growing. We can not cower in fear, we still need to obey the calling of the Lord and go into dark places. We need to stand against oppression and persecution. We need to share the gospel message without shame and with the boldness of Ananias. The Lord is with us, we have nothing to fear.
Dear Lord, we need your power and strength . We need your fearless love and wisdom to share the gospel message. Fuel us with boldness and faith to obey your call! Amen!

Dear Lord, we need your power and strength . We need your fearless love and wisdom to share the gospel message. Fuel us with boldness and faith to obey your call! Amen!

PURSUE GOD at no cost!
Acts 8:20-21 20But Peter replied, “May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought! 21You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right with God.
So many people believe they can buy their way to heaven. The thought of spending your way to heaven is not new. Peter was approached boldly by this man wanting to buy the power of the Holy Spirit. I have never heard of someone wanting to buy their conversion to the faith. SO, this is a little out there for us. We aren't nearly as bold and as direct. But we act as though our money can take the place of our weak faith. If we can just buy our way to heaven, or do some other ACT to prepare our path to eternity, it would be so much easier on us. Grace is all about not EARNING what we deserve. Grace is about the gift of eternity from a powerful creator that knows there is no way we can deserve it.
God does not care anything about our money. He doesn't even really care about WHAT we can do for him. He cares ONLY about our relationship with him. He cares about fellowship with us. He cares about how we are PURSUING HIM. All the other things are secondary to our lives. God's main desire is for us to come to him. He wants us to grow in our faith and knowledge in his Son, Jesus Christ. The more we pursue him, the more we are compelled to dedicate our entire life to him, the money, the service, the acts of love will grow forth in the center of our lives.
PURSUE GOD. DEDICATE YOUR DAY, EVERY WAKING MOMENT, TO HIM THAT LOVES US WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED.
